About our conference

Founded in 2014, The Australian Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Society (ABACBS) is the nation's largest professional body of its kind, representing over 1,100 bioinformaticians and computational biologists across Australia. The ABACBS national annual conference was first held in Sydney in 2015. It has since been held annually in different major Australian cities: Brisbane (2016), Adelaide (2017), Melbourne (2018, 2022), Sydney (2019), Hobart (2021, hybrid) and virtually (2020).

Following the success of the 2022 conference with 360 delegates in Melbourne, the ABACBS 2023 conference will be officially hosted as an in-person event in Brisbane. The conference will feature plenary sessions from international and national keynote speakers, contributed talks and poster presentations selected from abstracts, workshops, and ample networking opportunities.

For the first time in ABACBS history, ABACBS 2023 will be held in collaboration with the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), including discounted ISCB memberships for ABACBS 2023 attendees.

Following the longstanding tradition, the ABACBS 2023 will be held in conjunction with the one-day Student Symposium run by the Australian Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Student Society (COMBINE) on 4 December, at Hilton Brisbane. The ABACBS meeting will be held on 5-6 December at Hilton Brisbane, followed by the other satellite events and workshops on 7-8 December at the University of Queensland St Lucia campus. The conference organising committee is working hard towards making the event accessible, and looking into childcare options for delegates.

We look forward to welcoming you to sunny Brisbane and to ABACBS 2023!
